Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up   17-05-14

Premier Division

It’s the last seven days of the season, but the title could still go to any of three sides. Gas Recreation beat Little Oakley 2-1, and have to play Holland mid week and Alresford Colne Rangers on the final day.  A midweek win would make their position on goal difference pretty safe, but Harwich & Parkeston are still waiting in the wings and their 3-2 win at Coggeshall Town keeps them there.  If Gas stumble in one of their matches and Harwich have a goal fest in their matches with West Bergholt and Little Oakley they could snatch the top spot after being there for a long period of the season.  West Bergholt didn't play and they are level on points and eleven goals behind the Gas, so a win in their last goal and Gas fail to pick up a win in their last games would see them take the trophy.  Tollesbury ended the season on a high as they smashed White Notley 12-1, but University of Essex fell to a 1-0 defeat at a hungry Earls Colne, who virtually guaranteed their top division status unless Great Bentley produce a goal miracle in their last match.  Alresford Colne Rangers went to Barnston AFC and won 2-0, whilst Holland FC and Tiptree Jobserve drew 3-3.

First Division

West Bergholt Reserves secured second spot with a 3-0 win over Hatfield Peverel, and received their trophy after the match.  Mersea Island made their division one status safe with a 3-1 win over Wormingford Wanderers, and Little Oakley Reserves made a brief move for second place as they early kick off put them into second spot for an hour as they beat Kirby Athletic 5-4, until the Bergholt game finished.

Second Division

Great Bentley Reserves rounded their season off with a 3-1 win over Coggeshall Town Reserves.

Third Division

Bures United finished the season with a 4-3 win over Bradfield Rovers Reserves, but look like missing out on second spot.  White Notley Reserves swansong was a 6-1 win at Hatfield Peverel Reserves.
