Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 04-10-08

Premier Division

Little Oakley faced table topping West Bergholt, knowing that a defeat here would allow a gap to open up.  Little Oakley took the lead with a goal from Matt Carmichael, and stretched ahead with another from Trevor Lewis.  Bergholt gave themselves a lifeline with a reply from McIlwaine but Oakley added one at the death from Darren Cook to move in to top spot on the back of a 3-1 win.  Brightlingsea Regent On the back of two defeats came good as they beat White Notley 2-1, and Tiptree Heath remain unbeaten as they won at Gas Recreation 3-0.  Great Bentley shared the points with Mersea Island 2-2, and as did Hatfield Peverel and University of Essex in their 1-1 draw.  Dedham Old Boys beat Alresford Colne Rangers 2-1, and Weeley followed up last weeks victory with a 1-0 win at Earls Colne, the goal coming from a spectacular long range shot from C J Flatterty.

First Division

Hedinghams travelled over to Mistley United, where three goals in the first six minutes of the second half gave Hedinghams the points, after a close fought first half. A late goal for Hedinghams sealed a comfortable margin of 4-0.  Foxash Social went down heavily against Clacton United 5-0, and whilst Rowhedge grabbed a point on the road at Glemsford in a 2-2 draw.  Goals for Rowhedge were scored by Wayne Macklin and Rod Brooks.  Lawford Lads travelled over to Gosfield and won 4-2, whilst Sudbury Athletic hammered St Osyth 7-1.  Scorers for Sudbury were Danny Twyman with a hat trick Mark Adams with two, Steve Glitz and Karl Simpkin both got one each.  Great Bradfords got involved in a ten goal shooting match with Bradfield Rovers, and it was Great Bradfords who came out on top 6-4, but there were no such fireworks at Bures United where they drew 1-1 with Boxted Lodgers.

Premier Reserve Division

Brightlingsea Regent Reserves scorched to the top as they beat Alresford Reserves 5-0, and the mornings leader Little Oakley Reserves drew 1-1 at Clare Town Reserves.  University of Essex Reserves were pegged back by Earls Colne Reserves 3-1, and Great Bentley Reserves drew 2-2 at White Notley Reserves.  Goals came from Patrick Damali and Brendon Corr for Notley whilst Mick Goodwin and James Rule got the goals for Bentley.  West Bergholt Reserves had an emphatic 4-0 win over Mistley United Reserves, though the visitors played most the match with ten men, and succumbed to two late goals, and Coggeshall Reserves had joy on the road as they beat Weeley Athletic Reserves 5-1.

First Reserve Division

Holland Reserves squeezed a 1-0 win at Tiptree Heath Reserves, whilst chasing Boxted Lodgers Reserves could only draw 2-2 with Bradfield Rovers Reserves.  Hatfield Peverel Reserves travelled to Lawford Lads Reserves and picked up a 2-1 win, and Glemsford Reserves also had an away win as they beat local rivals Hedinghams Reserves 2-1 also.  Gosfield Reserves picked up a point in their 0-0 draw at Mersea Island Reserves, Great Bradfords Reserves got their first win of the season as they beat Foxash Social Reserves 5-2.
